IPL Photofacials

GIVE YOUR SKIN A PHOTO FINISH
For non-surgical skin rejuvenation that is non-invasive and backed by results, light-based therapies
can restore health and natural beauty to your skin without extensive downtime. At Complexion Med Spa, we offer a range of skin rejuvenation options, including IPL photo-facials for targeted, effective treatment.

As we age, our skin shows the effects of damage from the sun, lifestyle factors, and the wear-and-tear of daily life. IPL (intense pulse light), also known as a photofacial, is a popular, non-invasive treatment used in skin rejuvenation to provide sun damage treatment and improve many skin conditions. It provides the ideal answer for patients with active lifestyles as the procedure requires minimal downtime.

HOW DO IPL PHOTOFACIALS WORK?

IPL skin rejuvenation works on the ‘Theory of Photothermolysis’. With each pulse of light energy, heat is emitted to the target area (e.g blood vessels in the case of vascular lesions, or melanin in the case of pigmented lesions). This heat damages the target cells while leaving the surrounding skin unaffected. These damaged cells move towards the surface of the skin and slough off (in the case of pigmented blemishes) or are then gradually reabsorbed by the body (in the case of deeper vascular lesions.)

In addition to removing specific skin lesions, the body’s natural healing process is stimulated causing an increase in collagen and elastin production thereby improving the skin’s elasticity, skin thickness, wrinkle reduction, and smoothness.

WHAT DO IPL PHOTOFACIALS TREAT?
This non-invasive skin rejuvenation option can be used on multiple areas of the body including the
face, arms, chest, and other body areas. IPL photofacials can help correct multiple skin imperfections.
IPL will remove or reduce the appearance of the following conditions:

  • Brown Freckles Pigmentation
  • Age spots
  • Sun damaged spots
  • Prematurely aged or sun damaged skin
  • Rosacea, broken capillaries, spider veins
  • Acne : IPL destroys the most common bacteria that cause acne

In addition to removing specific skin lesions, the body’s natural healing process is stimulated causing an increase in collagen and elastin production thereby improving the skin’s elasticity, skin thickness, wrinkle reduction, and smoothness.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING TREATMENT?
Protective eyewear will be supplied for you in order to shield your eyes from the intense light. This procedure is typically well-tolerated with a light topical numbing cream. Options can be discussed during your consultation and before treatment. Patients are made comfortable during their IPL photofacial, and our team will talk you through the various stages of treatment, including post treatment care.

IS THERE ANY RECOVERY?
A mild redness akin to a slight sunburn typically develops after treatment but should subside within a
day. The skin continues to heal itself after the procedure is over, with full effects becoming evident
over a matter of several days. Depending on your individual condition, a series of treatments
may be required.
